Fields of gold (skies of azure)

£4,800.00
  • 24 slates (app 320x260x5mm each)

  • making one piece 700x2350x5mm

  • re-used green slate roof tiles carved, part gilded and pigments

  • 2004

The slates we found at Burlington quarry in the lake district, and by turning them upside down they seemed like heraldic shields to us. The letters were influenced by medieval German tradesmen’s signs. We added gold and coloured pigments to the weathered colour differences of the slates.
